Winter January 2025 arrived with a vengeance and a roar. What crazy weather. We have apocalyptic fires burning in California. At the same time polar arctic air dropped over a foot of snow and ice throughout the West, Mid-South and Northern states. Much of this winter storm is still on the ground more than a week later.
Extreme weather situations are life and death conditions for many people. Everyone knows someone and their story of survival. How are affected people able to keep a positive outlook? How do you do it? In spite of desperate situations people have shown heart and kindness to their neighbors. It turns out, we really are better together. There is strength in numbers. More can be better. Isolation is not healthy.
This is true whatever storm we face. Being kind, caring, and generous; helping our neighbors when you can. This weekend at Journey Church Cynthiana we invite you to join us. You will feel better being together. We’re in a winter series, Joy-full from Philippians in the Bible. Have you read it? Give it a shot and see for yourself. These are powerful words everyone can use in life. Especially when we feel down. Who hasn’t felt like throwing in the towel when life deals us a “bad hand”?
I will make you a promise. This part of the Bible will help us keep our chins up. Go God!
Can I make a confession? Just a few degrees, up or down, I’m thrown into a closet frenzy. I’m digging and grabbing jackets, sweaters, hoodies, and gloves out of the back of the closet. Heck, I sleep all winter in 3 or 4 layers of pjs and flannel shirts. Once, I got so cold while snorkeling in Hawaii with Connie, I went to the beach for a blanket. OK, crazy, I know. When my teeth begin to chatter, I’m done; even in Hawaii.
How about you? Maybe you’re a cold weather person and it’s the hot weather which you wish would cool off in August. Our thermometers are not the same. Our comfort level is not the same. The Good News is Jesus changes everything. He is always with us. Go God!
We’re just people. We’re all pretty good, until we’re not. Cold or hot, Feeling up or down, moody and blue or happy as a lark; this is what it’s like as people. We’re not robots. If you’re thinking you’ve had enough this winter, why not give God a shot. Join us inside or online. This Bible series could be just what the doctor ordered. Good words in the Bible to help reset/restart some positive vibes. Hey, Spring is only 64 days away. We got this.
We need each other. Even if our house isn’t on fire, or our home isn’t flooded, or this cold arctic air is our favorite kind of weather, life wears a person down a bit. Even if we’re the person who sees a silver lining behind every dark cloud, we’re not Superman. We are better neighbors, when together. True during weather related storms and every other type of storm in life. Just saying.
This weekend we’re going to laugh a little. I promise to make you smile. How? I will use Philippians, chapter two - keeping Joy-FULL despite circumstances. We will find the needed God-help; help to control negative thoughts in our mind. It’s a mind-game we are fighting also in this world. Don’t give in to fear, disappointment, or the weather.
Stay Joy-FULL. With God, we got this! Up or down! Go God.
