“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6 NIV
Are you someone who can see the potential in something old, tattered, and worn; becoming something new and better? Do you have a vision and an eye for restoring an old rundown house? Are you the person who is great with numbers and able to plot a profitable investment in the stock market? Are you a chef in the kitchen who takes a little of this and that, whipping out a five-star meal, fit to serve dinner guests at a trendy restaurant?
What is it all these examples have in common? Outward appearances can be deceiving. In the right hands, everything has potential. We may be very ordinary; even pedestrian from outward appearances. But with God, no matter how ordinary, placed in His hands we have extra-ordinary, remarkable possibilities.
This weekend at Journey Community Christian Church our Christmas 2024 series, THE NAME SAYS IT ALL, we grab the second description (Isaiah 9:6) of Jesus given by the Prophet Isaiah, 700 years before Jesus birth = Mighty God.
The Christ child to be born will be called Mighty God. What might we learn from Isaiah 9:6? Not only is the Christ child, Wonderful Counselor, beyond words to describe; able to understand our needs, our fears - this baby will become the Savior of the world, He is able to do anything. He is our all powerful, Mighty God.
Before the weekend take a moment and read Luke 2:9-10. The Bible explains… shepherds in the fields were first to learn of the birth of Jesus. The angels encouraged them, no matter how wearied, frantic and frightened this Christmas, fear not… Mighty God has unlimited power… and… sees great potential in YOU!
Let that begin to sink in as you have your morning prayer and coffee for the busy day ahead. God knows everything, is everywhere, and can do anything. God’s power is real in you… for you… and through… you. Want more?
